1. What this page covers
This page explains the cookies and similar technologies we use on this website, what each one does, how long it lasts, and how you control it.
It covers our online store and our checkout. It does not cover other websites you reach from links on our site. Those have their own policies and we do not control them.
This page sits alongside our Privacy Policy. This page tells you what is stored on your device. The Privacy Policy tells you what we do with personal information once we hold it, and what rights you have over it. Read them together.
2. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. It lets the site remember something between one page and the next, or between one visit and the next.
Some things that are not strictly cookies work the same way. Local storage, session storage and small tracking images all put data on your device or read data from it. Where we say cookies on this page, we mean all of them.
3. Your choice, and how to change it
When you first arrive we show you a cookie banner. It asks whether you agree to cookies that are not strictly necessary. You can accept them all, decline them all, or open Manage preferences and choose by type.
The banner names four types. Required is section 4 of this page. Analytics is section 5. Marketing is sections 6 and 7. We set nothing under Personalization.
If you say no, or if you leave the banner unanswered, we set only the cookies in section 4. Nothing in sections 5, 6 or 7 is set, and your browser sends nothing to the companies named there.
If you say yes, we also set the cookies you agreed to.
You can change your mind at any time. Press Change my cookie choice, just below, and the choices open again. Your new choice applies from the moment you make it. It does not undo what was already collected, and we say so plainly here because that is how consent works in law.
We ask everyone who visits, wherever they are.
4. Cookies we set whatever you choose
These make the site work. Without them you could not stay logged in, keep a basket, or complete a purchase. We do not ask permission for these because the site cannot function without them, and our reading of the law is that consent is not required for them. That reading is our own and is open to correction.
- _shopify_essential Holds the session and checkout information the store needs to work. One year.
- _shopify_test Checks whether your browser accepts cookies at all. One minute.
- _tracking_consent Remembers the choice you made on the cookie banner. This one exists so we can honour a no. One year.
- cart Remembers what is in your basket. Two weeks.
- cart_currency Used after a checkout finishes, to start a new empty basket. Two weeks.
- discount_code Holds a discount code if you arrived by a link carrying one. Until you close your browser.
- localization Sets your basket to the right country. One year.
- login_with_shop_finalize Used when you sign in with Shop. Five minutes.
- __Host-shop_binding Also used when you sign in with Shop. Three hours.
- shopify_pay Signs you back into Shop Pay when you return to checkout. One year.
- storefront_digest Used when the store is password protected, so we can preview it. One year.
- AgeVerificationPopup The full name is longer and begins with this. Remembers that you confirmed your age, so we do not ask again on every page. Thirty days.
5. Cookies we set only if you agree: measuring how the site is used
These tell us how many people visit, which pages they read, where they arrived from, and where the site gets in their way. We use them to make the site better. They are not necessary for the site to work, so they run only if you agree.
Three sets of tools do this.
Shopify, which runs the store.
- _shopify_y Recognises the same browser across visits. One year.
- _shopify_s Recognises a single browsing session. Thirty minutes.
- _shopify_analytics Holds the analytics data for the store and checkout. One year.
- _landing_page Records the first page you landed on. Two weeks.
- _orig_referrer Records the site you came from. Two weeks.
- shop_analytics Holds the information needed for analytics in Shop. One year.
- shopify_client_id Gives your browser an ID for Shopify's reports. One year.
Google Analytics, which counts visits and shows us which pages, and which routes into the site, lead to an order.
- _ga Tells one browser from another. Two years.
- _ga_ followed by a code that identifies our account Keeps a visit together from one page to the next. Two years.
Lucky Orange, which shows us how visits go, so we can see where people hesitate or get lost. It is told which pages and products you open, what you search for, what goes in and out of your basket, each step of checkout, and when a form is sent. It can also record a visit for playback, showing where you clicked or tapped and how far you scrolled.
- lo-uid Gives your browser an ID, so visits from the same browser can be linked. Two years.
- lo-visits Counts your visits. Two years.
Lucky Orange can also keep small items in your browser's local storage, among them lo-session, lo-visitor and lo-messenger. They hold the current visit together. It sets no cookies from any domain but ours.
6. Cookies we set only if you agree: advertising
We use the advertising tools of Google, of Meta, which is Facebook and Instagram, and of Pinterest. All three work by placing a small piece of code on the site. That code lets the platform recognise a browser that has been here, and count how many people who saw or clicked one of our adverts went on to buy. That is how we tell which adverts are worth paying for. Meta and Pinterest can also use it to show our adverts to people who have visited.
If you decline, or leave the banner unanswered, none of it sets a cookie and your browser sends nothing to Google, Meta or Pinterest.
Google's advertising code.
- _gcl_au Links a visit to the advert that led to it, so a sale can be counted. Ninety days.
- _gcl_aw Set only if you arrive by clicking one of our Google adverts. Remembers which one. Ninety days.
Google can also set cookies from its own domains rather than ours. Among them are IDE and test_cookie, on doubleclick.net, and Conversion, on googleadservices.com. Google publishes the full list with each lifetime, and that list is the authority.
Meta's code.
- _fbp Tells one browser from another for Meta's advertising. Ninety days.
- _fbc Set only if you arrive by clicking one of our adverts on Facebook or Instagram. Remembers which one. Ninety days.
Meta can also set cookies from its own domains rather than ours.
Pinterest's code.
- _pin_unauth Tells one browser from another for Pinterest's advertising. One year.
- _pinterest_ct_ua Links a visit to Pinterest's own record of the browser. One year.
- _epik Set only if you arrive by clicking one of our Pins or adverts on Pinterest. Remembers which one. One year.
Pinterest can also set cookies from its own domains rather than ours.
Shopify.
- _shopify_marketing Holds marketing data for the store and checkout. One year.
7. Email and the sign-up form
We use Klaviyo to send our emails. Klaviyo can also set an identifier that links a browser to an email address, so that a basket you left behind can be mentioned in an email to you.
- __kla_id Holds that identifier. Up to two years.
We treat it as an advertising cookie, not a necessary one. It runs only if you have agreed to both Analytics and Marketing on the banner. If you have not, you can still join the list and we will still email you. We simply will not connect what you did on the site to your address.
Giving us your email address is a separate thing from cookies. What we do with an address once you give it is covered in the Privacy Policy.
8. Other tools on this site
Three things on the site store a small amount of data on your device so they can do their job.
The chat window. Provided by Shopify Inbox. It remembers your conversation so the thread is still there if you move between pages or come back later.
The accessibility toolbar. Provided by AccessEase. It remembers the display settings you chose, such as larger text or higher contrast, so you do not have to set them again.
Recently viewed. The shop's theme keeps a short list of the products you have looked at, in your browser's local storage. The list stays on your device.
All three are there to make the site usable rather than to track you. None is used for advertising and none is used to measure traffic.
9. Who sets these cookies
Our store runs on Shopify. Shopify sets its own cookies in sections 4, 5 and 6 on our behalf. Our reading is that Shopify acts as our processor when it does that, and separately as a controller in its own right for some of what it collects, which is a matter between you and Shopify. That reading is ours and is open to correction.
Google, Meta, Pinterest, Klaviyo and Lucky Orange run theirs through Shopify's own system for this kind of code. Until you agree, that system lets none of them set a cookie or send anything from your browser. Google's code starts once you agree to Analytics or to Marketing. Meta's, Pinterest's, Klaviyo's and Lucky Orange's start only once you agree to both.
Each of these companies publishes its own cookie list and its own privacy policy. Those are the authoritative source for what each one sets, and they can change without us knowing. If this page and one of their lists ever disagree, tell us and we will correct this page.
10. Turning cookies off in your browser
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, in its settings. Look for Privacy, or Cookies and site data.
Two things worth knowing before you do. Blocking all cookies will stop the basket and the checkout working, so you will not be able to buy anything. And deleting cookies removes the record that you said no, so the banner will ask you again.
11. How long things last
Each cookie above carries its own lifetime. That is the longest it can sit on your device before your browser drops it. You can delete any of them sooner, as in section 10.
How long we keep the information behind those cookies, once it reaches us, is a different question and is covered in the Privacy Policy.
12. Your rights, and how to complain
Cookies that identify you, or that can be linked back to you, involve personal information. That means you have rights over it: to see it, to correct it, to have it deleted, and to object to it being used. Those rights and how to use them are set out in the Privacy Policy.
If you want to complain about how we handle your information, email us first at info@tikveslondon.uk and we will look at it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, which is the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk. You do not have to come to us first.
13. Where this page sits
This page forms part of our Terms of Service and should be read with them and with our Privacy Policy.
If this page and our Privacy Policy say different things about your personal information, the Privacy Policy applies. That matches what the Privacy Policy itself says.
14. Changes to this page
We will change this page when what we do changes, and we will change it before the new thing goes live rather than after. The date at the top tells you when it last changed.
If a change means we start setting a cookie you have not agreed to, we will ask you again rather than assume the old answer covers it.
