Start with the person, not the bottle. A big red like Barovo Red is for the red drinker. A mixed case like The Table is for the host. A bottle of Kumova Žolta is for someone who would rather have a spirit. And if you can't decide, there's a gift card.
The rest of this guide goes one person at a time. You can also browse everything in Gifts.
For the red drinker
Barovo Red is our flagship red. You get prune, sour cherry and blackberry, then vanilla, chocolate and pepper. It's powerful, with a long, juicy finish. Pour it with lamb or prime rib.
Babuna Red is bold and full-bodied. Blackberry, cherry and baked plum, moving toward violet. The tannins are fine-grained and the finish is long. It works with roast lamb, game, salmon or a cheese board.
For someone who drinks red all winter, The Reds is six bottles, all red, and both of these are in it. We built it for autumn and winter, and for cooking that wants a bigger glass.
Barovo is a field blend of Kratošija and Vranec. The two grapes are grown and picked together on volcanic bedrock, then the wine spends 18 months in new French oak.
For the white drinker
Bela Voda White is our flagship white. Pear, white peach, orange peel and a little vanilla, with a full, buttery finish. Serve it with sea bass, sea bream, or veal in a mushroom sauce.
Temjanika Luda Mara is the opposite. It's dry, crisp and light, with elderflower, acacia, lime and gooseberry. Serve it very cold as an aperitif, or with goat's cheese and leaf salads.
Alexandria Premium Cuvée White sits in between. White flowers, pear and wet stone, an oily texture and a lemon-cream finish. It's good with mussels or a light, creamy pasta.
Fresh Whites puts six whites in one case, with two bottles of Bela Voda White. It's for the person who never drinks red, so they get range without a red in sight.
For the host
The Table is the case we'd give to anyone cooking for a crowd. It's six bottles across red and white, and it holds both flagships, Barovo Red and Bela Voda White. Alongside them are T'ga za Jug, Alexandria Premium Cuvée White, Babuna White and Alexandria Premium Cuvée Red. There's a bottle for the fish, one for the roast and one for later.
The Introduction is every colour in one box: red, white and rosé. It's the easiest way to give someone a feel for the whole range.
For a smaller table, The Alexandria is three bottles: the red, the white and the rosé. Alexandria Premium Cuvée Rosé brings wild strawberry, raspberry and rose petal, and it's good with seafood risotto.
For the curious one
If you're after unusual wine gifts that are still easy to open, start here.
The Entry Pair is two bottles. Smederevka is crisp and clean, with citrus and stone fruit, and suits grilled fish or a salad. Kratošija is bright and fruit-forward, with redcurrant, cherry and something brambly and spiced. It's lovely with roast meats or moussaka. Here's the bit to tell them over dinner: Kratošija is the same grape as Zinfandel and Primitivo.
T'ga za Jug is a semi-dry red made from late-harvest Vranec. It tastes of overripe sour cherry, raspberry and raisin, with a full body and a long finish. The name comes from a poem, "Longing for the South".
The Luda Mara Pair puts two wines side by side. Vranec Luda Mara is spicy blackberry, black cherry and dried herbs, with firm tannins. Temjanika Luda Mara is the crisp, floral white from above.
For the spirits drinker
Kumova is a rakija, a grape brandy. There are four, and they're quite different.
Kumova Žolta is pale amber, with dried apricot, honeyed citrus, vanilla, almond and nougat. Serve it with cheese, ajvar, figs and walnuts.
Kumova Reserve is golden and rich. Dried apricot, quince, caramelised apple, honey and tobacco leaf. Drink it neat, maybe with dark chocolate.
Kumova Bela is crystal clear, with fresh grape, white peach and Muscat florals. Serve it well chilled with grilled fish or calamari.
Kumova Traditional is fresh grape, green apple and almond. Have it neat, cold or over ice, with cured meats, pickles and olives.
The spirits range also includes LYXA VSOP. You'll find them all in Spirits.
For the one who has everything
The Collector is our top case. It has two bottles of Barovo Red, plus Bela Voda White, Babuna Red, Vranec Luda Mara and Babuna White. It's a case for someone who likes to open things slowly and compare.
The Single Vineyards is three bottles: Barovo Red, Bela Voda White and Babuna Red. Each comes from the one vineyard its label names, and tasting them together shows how different they are.
And when you genuinely don't know their taste, a gift card lets them choose.
Where it comes from
Every wine and every Kumova in this guide is made by Tikveš in North Macedonia, a winery founded in 1885. See all our cases and sets, or browse Macedonian wine.
