Temjanika is a white grape, and the wine we pour from it is dry, crisp and light. It smells of elderflower and acacia, with fresh grape, lime and gooseberry, and it ends on clean citrus. Serve it cold, at around 7°C. Open it before dinner, with a leaf salad, or with sheep's and goat's cheese. Our bottle is Temjanika Luda Mara, made from 100% Temjanika.
How it tastes
Start with the colour. It's pale lemon in the glass.
Then the smell. Elderflower comes first, then acacia. Behind that there's fresh grape, a squeeze of lime and a little gooseberry.
In the mouth it's dry. It feels light and crisp, and it doesn't sit heavy. The finish is citrus, and it stays clean.
So this is a white for when you want lift, not weight. It's bright, floral and easy to come back to.
How it compares to whites you know
The quickest way to place Temjanika is to set it beside the other whites in our range.
If you like a white that's crisp and clean, try Smederevka. It's pale lemon too, with tropical and stone fruit over zesty citrus and some green apple. Temjanika leans more floral. Smederevka leans more towards fruit and peel.
If your usual white is Chardonnay, look at Alexandria Premium Cuvée White. It's mostly Chardonnay, with white flowers, pear and wet stone, and an oily texture that ends in lemon cream. Temjanika is lighter and sharper than that.
If you like a white with a herbal edge, there's Babuna White, with intense white peach and grapefruit. Temjanika is the gentler, more floral of the two.
You can find all of them in our whites.
What to eat with it
Temjanika works well before a meal. Pour it as an aperitif, while people arrive.
At the table, keep the food fresh and simple:
- Leaf salads
- Full-fat sheep's and goat's cheese
- Fresh fruit
- Lightly sweet desserts
The cheese pairing is the one to try first. The wine's citrus cuts through a rich goat's cheese, and the floral side stays clear. With fruit or a light dessert, the grape and elderflower notes come forward.
Chill it well. Around 7°C is right, so give it time in the fridge before you open it.
Our Temjanika
Temjanika Luda Mara is the Temjanika we stock. It's made from the one grape, with nothing blended in. That makes it a straightforward way to taste what Temjanika is on its own.
It also sits alongside other wines in a few places on the shop:
- The Luda Mara Pair puts it next to Vranec Luda Mara, one white and one red.
- Fresh Whites is a six-bottle case of whites, with Temjanika Luda Mara among them.
If you'd like to browse by grape, everything Temjanika lives in the Temjanika collection.
Where it's grown
The vines behind our bottle grow on alluvial and rendzina soils. The wine is made by Tikveš, a winery founded in 1885.
The wider Tikveš region has a mixed Continental and Mediterranean climate. It's protected by mountains on three sides, and its soils include rendzina, vertisol, alluvial and terra rossa.
